My Students
Have you ever tried your best to learn something, but could never quite get it? Despite their efforts, the students in our class struggle with acquiring needed daily living math skills.They have a special zest for learning, give 100%, and require high interest hands on learning experiences.
The students are in a self -contained resource room.
They have the opportunity to work with a paraprofessional and a special education teacher. Four of the students are identified as having multiple disabilities and two of the students are identified as autistic. We also work with general education students on various reading, science, math, and social studies projects. They are an unique group of students who have a deep love of learning.
My Project
The calendar math center, calendar math journals, magnetic math manipulatives, and magnetic write and wipe board will provide the students with the opportunity to reinforce calendar concepts and practice essential daily living math skills on a consistent basis. The materials will allow us to target skills that are important in real world situations. The hands on tools will provide extra practice in a meaningful way that will allow students to transfer knowledge to all settings.
Our students want to grow to be happy, productive, and independent adults.
In order for that to happen, they must understand and be able to apply basic math skills. They need to be able to utilize a calendar, count money, tell time, apply number sense skills, and solve problems that relate to real world situations. The materials will allow students valuable opportunities to develop and apply these critical math skills.
