My Students
Thirty to Fifty percent of the children in my classroom are children who are identified with special needs. Disabilities include: speech and language delays, autism, developmental delays, and physical disabilities. Our program also includes, typically developing peers, English Language Learners as well as low-income families. Our Early Childhood Program is located in an Elementary School Building in a separate wing that is comprised of now five classes. Students attend classes for a half day either in the morning or the afternoon.
Starting with the 2016-17 school year, our Early Childhood Program became a lottery-based system, replacing the fee-based system, thus eliminating the monthly fee for students.
My Project
Play based learning is something that every preschool classroom should promote, foster and provide. Developing activities, projects and investigations is key to helping students learning about their world around them.
I recognize and honor children’s natural curiosity and desire to learn by allowing a child to explore and engage through hands-on experiences in my classroom.
By providing STEM materials that match our thematic units, such as the Three Little Pigs Problem Solving Kit or the Can Do! Discovery Kits will help promote and foster that natural desire while also making important connections to early literacy skills. My students are naturally drawn to science and investigating, by providing more activities throughout their environment as a choice time will help support a life long love of learning and inquiry.
