My urban students have begun to read for pleasure and to keep the momentum going, we need about 115 high interest books and a digital camera with dock kit.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my urban pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade school travel through some of the toughest neighborhoods in the lowest income areas of our city on their daily commute to school. Even though many face obstacles in their daily lives that we can only imagine, they are beginning to discover the joy of reading and the places they can go through books!
My urban students are devouring books in the library and need an infusion of new reading materials and ways to present reviews on what they've read. At this point in time, the library's collection is in need of an infusion of newer books to keep the readers coming back for more! Using a digital camera to create book reports will give the reluctant readers in the group an incentive to read more so they, too, can join the readers and create video reports.
Students are beginning to discover the genre that most appeals to them and with the spine labels, they will easily recognize new materials to investigate.
The books requested cover a variety of genres and reading levels and will give the readers new titles to enjoy! Students can use the camera to create new and inventive book reports to share with others. Also included are spine labels so they can quickly identify books that are of a particular interest to them.
Reading is the key to the future for these students and your generosity in providing reading materials will benefit them not only today but for the future as well. Giving the students a new way to share their favorite books through visual presentation will encourage their peers to want to read more, too.
More than half of students from low‑income households
