My Students
One of my favorite things to do is to read to my Kindergarteners. I believe that one of the most important things I can do for my students is to expose them to a book each day. Unfortunately, every morning we start our day on an old, worn classroom rug.
My Kindergarten class is one of two in a small rural school in Northern California.
I have a classroom of energetic and ready to learn five and six year olds. We spend a great deal of our day on the floor learning about our world. We meet there for story time, classroom meetings, reading and math activities, and play activities.
My Project
It would be so nice for my students to have a new clean classroom rug. The one I have chosen has 30 squares which would allow each of my students to have his/her own square. It would not only give us our own space but would help remind students to respect the space of others. It is also decorated with the alphabet letters which will also make learning fun and will help with letter recognition. Most importantly, it will give us a more controlled clean space to sit, play, and learn in.
Instead of a chaotic beginning, this gift to my students will give them a more positive, focused start each morning.
