What a Great Day Learning to Play My Ukulele!

My students need 20 Ukuleles with 20 tuners, picks and 20 ukulele storage bags.

My Students

My students love music. My students choose to take music as one of their elective courses which means they want to be there and they want to learn. When my door opens for that time of music, my heart loves to see those kiddos, quickly run to drop off their backpacks and take their seats, excitedly ready to begin their music lesson for that day. What a joy and privilege it is to teach students who want to grow and learn as much about music as they can.

My Project

I want to teach my students how to play the ukulele. Playing the ukulele is going to open up a whole new world of musical instruments for my music classes. They have played the recorder, percussion drums, glockenspiels and sang their songs but, this year will be the first experience of playing a stringed instrument for them. At the end of my last years music classes, I took a survey and asked my students what they had learned that past year and what would they be interested in learning the next year in music? For 90% of the students surveyed, they wrote that they wanted to learn to play either the guitar or ukulele. So, I took my summer thinking about which if any instrument I should introduce to my wonderful music students. I excitedly decided that the perfect stringed instrument to teach my students would be the ukulele. Teaching ukulele is wonderful because it's small enough for tiny hands and big enough for little fingers, and it's not a difficult instrument to learn and my students are going to love playing it. I thought about how playing the ukulele is such a great introduction to all of the other stringed instruments and how someday my students can grow to play those as well. I am really excited to give my students this addition to this years music curriculum. I am glad to meet my students musical dreams and desire to play the ukulele and more then that I really want to see them continue on in their music journey of finding themselves and growing through their musical vocal, percussion and now instrumental adventure.
