Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are creative, resilient, artistic and unique! This will be my fourth year teaching at the Title 1 school in a very impoverished neighborhood. I have been teaching for over 30 years in various places in the world and by far these kids have stolen my heart. My goal has always been to provide a learning environment that promotes kindness, community and safety. I typically teach 32 fifth or sixth grade students each year until just a few months ago when I landed my dream job of becoming their art teacher! Now I teach all 16 classes. I am thrilled to have the privilege to provide art history and the joy of creativity, as well the therapeutic benefits of expressing themselves thru hands on projects. Our school of almost 500 kids need art supplies, canvases and volunteers who can help to paint murals on our very dreary walls. I want my students to beautify their environment with art- they deserve it!
My Project
These panels will be used for each student to have a place in the school to display their love of color and art and to show their pride for our school environment! These kids have not had art in their school for over five years this is just one of the many projects I’d like to start with To provide a beautiful positive environment each day. My students come from An area they know it’s labeled as the “” square mile. It is a very dangerous neighborhood it does not have a lot of beauty in it and their school is right in the middle of it. There are many minerals that I would like to add but this is just one we could get started so that they each have their hand in a final project.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
