My students need 20 baskets (5 sets of 4) that can hold the vast amount of books that are available in my classroom library.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach to a heterogeneous group of 3rd graders. These kids try to escape the daily adversities that are the realities of their lives. Most of these students come to school with no basic supplies and many of these students do not have any support at home. Learning is the last thing on their mind.
Many students lack the motivation to learn these days-no matter what learning capabilities they have.
With all of the social and emotional difficulties at home and emphasis on state testing, who could blame them? I try to instill the love of learning by making education fun and my classroom welcoming. Since most of my students come from homes where they have no space to themselves, let alone a place to read and explore, how can they think about school and learning? I would like to “update” my room so that the children have a place where they feel comfortable and look forward to be in everyday.
My Project
I would like to get 20 baskets (5 sets of 4) for my classroom library. These baskets are colorful and strong and they will hold my classroom library books. With generous donors like you, I was able to get many good books for my students to read. However, I do not have the proper baskets to hold them. Because of the quantity of books and the daily wear and tear on handling of the baskets, many of the baskets are broken—some are even dangerous with their sharp, broken corners. The colors will also make the room more fun and attractive because the current baskets are white which blend into the walls, making the room dull and unattractive.
I truly believe that all students can learn.
I have taught in the gifted and talented classes as well as the inclusion class where a part of the student body is special needs students. No matter where their abilities lie, I know that all students can be engaged and love the world of learning. They just need to be motivated and know that their teachers care about them. What better way to show them than by utilizing the best way to teach and to make the classroom fun and attractive?
