This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I can't hear you!" During a play performance communication is key and our old two way radios give us nothing but static.
We are a middle school drama / speech department serving grades 6 - 8.
Our title I school district is in a high-risk community where most students are minority and low-income. Though our students struggle at times to succeed; they are passionate, imaginative kids who deserve the chance to experience a creative learning environment.
We have an after school drama club program where students can participate in 2 full length plays, improv team, speech team and Thespian society for free (no activity fees). This program allows students of all ability levels and learning types to play a role in the creative process.
We try to find a place for any child interested in the performing arts. Not only do we put students on stage, but backstage as well. Students are responsible for just about every aspect of the creative process: stage management, sound, set, props, costumes, makeup, and lights are all made /executed by the theater students.
My Project
We need a way for students to run lights, sound, curtain, and to move sets, without making excess noise during performances. We currently have a set of two way radios, but they are older and do not always work. Without a means to communicate during a performance, students may miss cues, get confused, and become scared during performances.
If we had two-way radios, we could attach headsets to them and communicate during performances.
This will allow the children to stage manage, direct, and perform technical theatre during live performances.
Your help will allow children who have never been exposed to quality theatre to create their own quality performances.
