This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At our Title I school, almost all of my students are second language learners. Their drive to learn and achieve is amazing. My classroom is full of learners and future leaders who strive to do their best every day.
My students are the face of the United States of America.
Some were born in this country to English speaking parents. Some were born in the United States to Spanish or Vietnamese speaking parents. Others were born in another country and immigrated to the United States. One thing that all of my students have in common is their zest for learning. They are so wonderful in that they don't see the differences between each other.
My Project
In the past few years, our school has embraced STEAM. Art is an important component and our students need as many experiences with mediums as possible. Most art projects in elementary projects use paper, paints, and glue. Well...
We need to weave some new materials into art!
With these weaving materials of looms, yarn, warp, and plastic needles, the students will have a new experience. Many students don't have materials or support at home to complete art projects. So the classroom is the place to introduce students to a new and exciting experience. Who knows, one of these creative students may find weaving as a new hobby.
