My Students

"A #2 pencil and a dream can take you anywhere." Joyce A. Myers

Our classroom is full of passion and joy.

Our goal each day is to learn from each other and to build a classroom of support. My students are fifth graders attending a newly redistricted fifth and sixth grade school, in Connecticut. They come from all areas of town, mostly from an urban setting and many of them qualify for free/reduced lunch price. This means my students do not or cannot have the opportunities like many other schools. However, someone would never guess that about them! They come to school everyday bright-eyed and ready to learn like nothing will ever hold them back. They want to do so much more with their lives than what they are given. School offers the consistency and success that they so desire in their lives. My students are fun-loving, eager to learn fifth graders, but we lack supplies due to the fact that we are in an urban district without funding.

My Project

My 5th graders are constantly designing and creating brilliant work! They would love to be able to print and document their work. When was the last time you wrote, edited and revised an essay using only paper and pencil? My students are having difficulty simply starting that task because every time we begin, the snap of a pencil point stops them in their tracks and there is not a working pencil sharpener in the classroom! My students need a pencil sharpener to start off their day; one that works properly and is dependable. There is also something incredibly satisfying about actually holding something that you have worked on and I want my students to experience that feeling. Having ink provides immediate resources at my fingertips. When these talented authors finish their works of art, the ink in the printer provides a magnificent way to transport their writing. Bringing these simple supplies into our classroom would open up a world of possibilities for my students.

Your donations will help my students to be motivated to be great authors!

It will change their lives for the better because they will become self-sufficient, organized learners. Please help this classroom project come to life!
