My Project
As a high school music teacher, I’m always seeking ways to create a more dynamic and engaging classroom experience. Rhythm is a foundational skill for all musicians, and having access to drum sticks and practice pads would significantly enhance the way I teach rhythm across all levels of my program.
Currently, we rely on clapping and tapping on laps during rhythm warmups.
While these methods are helpful, they limit students’ ability to develop proper stick technique, control, and muscle memory. With drum sticks and practice pads, students will be able to physically engage with rhythm in a more tactile and realistic way—just like they would in a real percussion setting.
These tools will also support differentiated learning. Beginners can build coordination and timing, while more advanced students can refine their technique and accuracy. The pads will provide a quiet yet responsive surface, making it possible for us to work in groups or individually without overwhelming the classroom space with sound.
Beyond technical skill, having these resources will increase student motivation and investment. There's something exciting about using real equipment, and I know my students will be more enthusiastic and focused when they have the right tools in their hands.
