This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love playing rhythms on drums. The only problem is that we do not have sufficient drums at our school.
My students are K-5 at a multicultural low income area of California.
They are very eager to learn and love music! They are able to have music classes twice weekly for 90 minutes. They love echoing rhythms and improvising their own. I find that I can reach them through music and make important connections.
My Project
We are in need of electronic drums in order to improvise rhythms and to aid us in composition. These will motivate them to really practice reading rhythmic notation and engage them in performance. They will be able to perform their rhythms in front of large groups and increase their self-esteems.
This project will impact my students' lives forever as they will be able to participate in composing music through various aspects of rhythm.
