Help me give my students a more well-rounded physical education experience by adding pickleball to the curriculum, and updating our disintegrating old foam soccer ball set to a more durable and multi-use Gator Skin ball class set!
I am a 2nd year PE & health teacher working with 3rd-5th grade students in a low income public school district in St. Louis County, MO.
We are currently facing a major budget crisis and have been told we will not receive any district funding for new equipment and supplies this year.
I have attended several professional development trainings on pickleball and would love to bring this game back to my school for my kids, but we don't have the equipment! Pickleball is a great way not only to get kids excited and moving, but also to teach them communication skills, game rules and fair play, as well as teamwork and sportsmanship. Its current popularity in our area will also help drive students' interest and engagement, and expose them to a new sport they can enjoy in their future leisure time as well.
Additionally, we desperately need new multi-use sports balls for the many and varied PE activities and games I plan for my students. Our current set of old foam soccer balls is falling apart, missing chunks, and leaves foam dust and shreds of disentegrating ball coverings all over the gym with each use. Getting a class set of gator skin balls which could be used for soccer and much more would truly be a game changer!!
