Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In a largely underserved community, we work so hard to ensure our students are in an environment where they feel like they can collaborate, explore, problem solve and innovate! We serve 534 students in an urban environment. As a staff, we are dedicated to supporting and accelerating our students, who come from traditionally undeserved backgrounds.
Over 40% of our students are English Language Learners, 20% of our students receive Special Education Services and 96% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches, but we refuse to let these statistics define who our kids are and what they deserve to achieve success TODAY.
Our goal, is to create a learning experience that is so rich and personalized that we have kids knocking down the doors to get in, not out.
My Project
This year, all teachers in kindergarten through fourth grade are using a new literacy curriculum to support both English and Spanish speakers. Each unit has a different theme that focuses on an essential question that students will study throughout the unit such as government, technology, characters, history, science and culture.
In unit 3, Science comes alive as students will learn about wild animals and plants and how they adapt to nature!
The informative texts that I have requested will be used to help support their learning and give them an opportunity to dig deeper into their literacy unit on life science!
We are so excited to be able to finally plan units of study that are focusing on more than one subject. We have a strong belief in literacy but an even stronger belief that all students should we be exposed to all subjects everyday. Your donation will help us ensure that we are meeting the needs of all of our students AND providing them cross curricular experiences!
