My Project

Our students are ambitious, driven, hard-working, and sometimes overwhelmed! As dually enrolled high school and community college students, they sometimes forget about the importance of balance and self-care. I sponsor multiple clubs, but this year I have several students who expressed an interest in learning how to sew after seeing items that I made for family and friends. They recognize the benefits of sewing as a life skill and are excited to learn more.

Our sewing club will help students make new friends, relax, and de-stress from their busy academic days while learning valuable life skills!

They love the personal interaction of club activities and have made comments about how much more fulfilling it is to learn and create together compared to endlessly scrolling through social media, which was a common practice to pass the time between classes. Now they look for opportunities to interact with each other and learn new skills.

I'm seeing more smiles and hearing more laughter as they develop leadership skills, socialize, and strengthen friendships through club involvement. This carries over into their general well-being, productivity, and overall mental health. Please help me give my students sewing machines and basic sewing materials so that they can develop these essential skills and continue to build camaraderie, relieve stress, and celebrate being happy, healthy, creative people.
