We're Problem Solving Mathematicians!!!

My students need 16 different math center activities, games, and problem solving practice activities that will help develop their math problem solving skills.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. McSterling's classroom raised $770

This project is fully funded

A world without numbers is as unthinkable as a world without words. Math is a part of everything we do and I believe my charge as a teacher is to help my students understand the connection between the "real world" and what I teach them. I teach third grade in a low income community and my school serves approximately 450 students in grades 1-5.

I began teaching in an urban school district four years ago with the attitude that anything is possible. I believed then and am certain today that children living in poverty are capable of achieving high levels of academic success. I have high expectations of them and am glad to say that year after year they meet these expectations. The biggest challenge I've faced each year has been the lack of funding for materials. I am committed to providing an excellent education to each of my students and will go out of my way to make sure they have what they need. However, I am not always able to provide them with exciting, new, and fun games that are common in other school districts.

I have seen how hands on activities have helped my students grasp math concepts and have been very creative in developing my learning centers. My students do enjoy using them and they assist me by giving each child much needed practice and reinforcement. I'd like to add some new durable activities to my Math learning center that my students can use each day. The activities I'm requesting are math games and math skill practice cards that they can use daily to practice what they're learning. I've also requested a Real World Problem Solving math kit that will help them apply each math skill to a real life situation. My goal is to develop my students' critical thinking and problem solving skills. These activities will help them develop these skills as well as master basic math facts and operations.

Through your generosity, my students will become better problem solvers. My students don't often receive new and exciting materials in their classrooms. These new, shiny, and colorful math center activities will build their excitement for learning math.
