My Students

I am the high school librarian of an urban 9-12 secondary school in California. One of my educational objectives is to support my students' journeys as they challenge themselves academically and prepare for college. Many of our students have been raised in families that don't prioritize the value of higher learning. This means that these students don’t have modeling, educational expectations, or a support network at home. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to be a valuable resource for my student and their personal cheerleader, visualization coach, and mentor.

My Project

In order to help my students prepare for the college application process, I want to stock the library with current SAT study guides. Most of my students come from impoverished neighborhoods and don't have the money to enroll in fancy SAT Preparation Classes. However, it is essential to score well on these tests if one is to be accepted into any four -year college. And scoring well isn't only a matter of intelligence and content mastery; it also relies on test practice, familiarity with the format, and learning exam tricks and strategies. I want to erase the achievement gap between those who come from financially solvent families and those who struggle monetarily as much as possible by offering study guides to those who do not the opportunity to take SAT classes outside of school. In this way, all students will have a similar chance to continue their education.
