My students need reading materials that are high-interest, yet low-level as well as materials such as ink, paper, notebooks and scissors to create responses to these books.
Want to help creative students who are eager to learn? Currently I teach 5th, 6th and 7th grade special education in Philly. My students face some obstacles to learning, but they have the desire to learn to read better.
Earlier this year, the media reported that 1 out of every 10 American high schools is a dropout factory. The dropout rate for students of special education is twice that of general education students. 43 percent of the 7,547 assaults on staff during the last five years in Philadelphia classrooms have been committed by special education students. MY STUDENTS AREN'T AND WON'T BE THESE STATISTICS IF YOU STEP IN TO HELP US.
We are hoping to receive high-interest, low- level books revolving around one of our interests-music. In addition to the books, we would like materials to create posters and reports based on our reading. We use our two classroom computers to type our work and our printer ink is running out, so that will help us, too. These types of projects keep us engaged and help us work across disciplines.
With the supplies that you graciously donate, we will be able to increase our reading skills and use our creativity.
