My Students

Remember how fun it was to go to music class in elementary school? I want to make reading fun too. You can help my students develop literacy and music skills in music class - we just need xylophone mallets and literature for my "Mallet Madness" lessons.

Our school is a Title I school with 79% of our population participating in the free and reduced lunch program.

We have a diverse student population and have many students who are learning English as a second language. My music program is funded primarily through grants, fund raising, and donations. As the music teacher, I work will all 900 kindergarten through fifth grade students. All students with disabilities are mainstreamed for enrichment classes.

My Project

I have several "Mallet Madness" lessons that combine literature and music, but I don't have the literature. And we have xylophones, but we need mallets to play them! Music is a vital part of a well-rounded education and can help build literacy skills. Each one of the "Mallet Madness" lessons is based on a children's book. These music lessons will build literacy skills such as narration, reading fluency, and rhyming, as well as music skills such as rhythm, tempo, melodic direction, and harmony. I would like to practice these skills more in my music class, but I need your help to get the materials I need.
