Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
After 10 years, I will be teaching in a self-contained classroom! For the first time ever, I will be teaching a multi-grade classroom -- specifically a 1st grade/2nd grade split class. I have been blessed with many reading and writing materials and resources, and now I would love to build my math and science resources so that my mathematicians and scientists will have tools to use to manipulate and explore.
My 1st grade/2nd grade mathematicians will need to represent and visualize numbers in different ways.
The place value blocks will help them add sums of thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones. The class set of easy-to-read rulers and handheld magnifying lenses will help students in science as they measure and observe. The Bingo games will be a fun way to review numbers, addition, subtraction, counting money, etc. The fraction bars will be another way to visualize parts of a whole.
