This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am the proud teacher of 48 5th graders. In this last year of elementary school, students are preparing for their middle school experience. Creating responsible, independent thinkers is at the top of my list! So far, I can see steady growth in this area. I can't wait to see where they will be by the end of this school year. To make the most of this school year, my students will overcome several challenges, such as: language proficiency, below grade level reading comprehension, attention issues, autism, etc.
My Project
These laptops will go a long way in helping my students be more successful by providing critical digital practice, adaptive learning programs, and fluent device literacy. Since several students have no computers/wi-fi at home, these laptops will help bridge the gap of opportunity. Additionally, some of our students struggle with disabilities, such as Attention Deficit, Autism, and Fine Motor Challenges. For these special students, working on a device really helps grasp and keep their attention and overcomes the issues of poor handwriting skills by allowing for self-expression through keyboarding.
Having a laptop on every desk will help me reach each child in a culturally-relevant, dynamic, and engaging format.
Right now we only have 6 laptops, and these additional 4 will give students an almost 2-to-1 ratio for device use--making a huge difference in accessibility, motivation, and instruction. These laptops will also be available daily for students who may want to have a "working lunch" where they can get extra practice and enrich their school experience!
