My Students
"We can make two years' growth!" My students recite their vision each morning, a vision to help them prepare for second grade and beyond.
Resilience and hard work--the things that make Detroit a great city are the same things that make my students great readers.
Many of my students entered first grade reading below grade level. I am proud to say that as a class, we have already made an average of over one year's growth in reading.
While they are proud of their accomplishments, my students are still excited to keep working and make our vision of two years' growth a reality. My students attend year-round school, so we are ready to use the summertime to work towards achieving our goal!
My Project
My students all learn in very different ways, and many of them love to learn using technology. We are fortunate to have access to both a computer program and a listening center that reinforce the skills we learn in class. While these resources provide an excellent opportunity for students to practice their reading skills, we do not have access to classroom headphones. This can cause much distraction and confusion while students are trying to work. Classroom headphones will help my students focus and give them a chance to practice their literacy skills without distraction.
We are very close to reaching our classroom goal of two years' growth in reading.
Providing my students with headphones will help them effectively use technology to improve their reading skills and meet our classroom reading goal.
