This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like the first time you were able to read a book on your own? I am blessed with the opportunity to see this amazing experience come to life every year.
I am privileged to teach 5-6 year old children in a self contained Kindergarten classroom.
My students attend a large public school and come from low income households. All students qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch. Most students are learning English as a second language and many are attending school for the first time. Not many students have technology at home. Therefore, the TAG reading system will be a wonderful way for my students to be exposed to technology and get them EXCITED about reading!
My Project
The Tag School Reader is an easy-to-use handheld learning tool for students that responds to every touch on specially-printed books and materials, with audio feedback and on-demand reading assistance. Students reading Miss Spider's Tea Party, for example, can touch an icon to hear the story read aloud, or touch a single word to hear the pronunciation. Even the pictures come to life for added story context and background information. Engaging activities focus on core reading skills including comprehension, vocabulary development, phonics, and phonemic awareness. Tag Readers use an interactive approach to keep students interested as they work to develop early literacy skills.
The tag reading system will allow the children to listen to the storybooks which are differentiated to meet all of my students' diverse learning needs.
It will especially help my English learners by providing a model to the English language.
