This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Making change is a foreign concept to most 3rd graders. They do not go to the store alone, nor do they see their parents use coins and bills to pay at stores. Yet, counting money and making change is a very important life skill that will later translate into balancing a checkbook.

My students live in the inner-city.

They come from very modest means. They spend countless hours at school and rarely venture outside their industrial neighborhood. They all qualify for free federal lunches and cannot afford basic school supplies such as pencils, paper, and books. Yet, they come to school daily with a smile and ready to do their very best. They have great aspirations and are eager to learn new things. My students are caring and have the biggest hearts and regardless of all their struggles they work hard to overcome many hurdles in their lives.

My Project

I am requesting a Money Learning Center. With this Money Learning Center my students will be able to practice adding, subtracting and counting coins and bills. My students need to have this experience so that they learn the true value of a dollar. In addition, I will be requesting the Break the Bank At-My-Seat Money Game to help my students learn how valuable it is to save money for a rainy day. At this point in their lives my students do not have an income to be able to save but they can learn how important and rewarding it can be to set some of their earnings or allowance for something special. I want to teach my students to set goals and how to save and keep track of their money. Also, I am requesting the Solve & Check Money Sliders to have students practice counting various amounts of coins and bills in a fun and challenging way.

Please give my students the right tools to learn how to count, add and subtract money (coins).

By teaching them how to handle money, count it, and make proper change I am teaching my students a skill that will be of use for a lifetime. Thank you for supporting a class in need.
