I am a second grade teacher at a Title I elementary school located in Brooklyn's East New York. All my students qualify for free lunch and dinner and many come to class hungry and wanting for the basics all children need. With so many different cultures, backgrounds and learning styles represented in my classroom I am in constant need of resources to engage, challenge, and elevate my wonderful and deserving 2nd graders.
Many of my children come to school inadequately nurtured - both in food and love.
I want to give them the knowledge and life skills needed for them to grow up happy and healthy.
My Project
My second graders all have different levels of energy and most need to continually move! Right now I have traditional desks and chairs that require my students to sit still while learning. This is contrary to their natural need to move - it's time for flexible seating that wobbles and grooves!
I'm requesting two Lakeshore Wobble Chairs for those students who need to move their bodies while they are learning.
With the Lakeshore Giant Classroom Timer students can time themselves and rotate on the chairs throughout the day. This way all my children will have time on the Wobbles. Besides helping them apply themselves to the lessons, having control of their scheduling fosters independence and responsibility - something 2nd graders need to develop.
I love the Giant Classroom Timer because it's digital face is very visible to all the students. We'll have it mounted at the front of the class and it will be used throughout the day as we time our different activities and transitions.
Thank you so much for helping my children move and groove with time!
