My Students

Help us have room to learn! Our class of students in special education is growing. Since starting with my students when they were in kindergarten we have all grown tremendously. Now in third grade, they do not fit on our learning rug.

Our class consists of 10 - 15 students in special education.

We have students living with Autism, hard of hearing, and specific learning disabilities to name a few. We are in a very low income school with almost 100% of students taking advantage of the free and reduced lunch program. Even though most of them come from poverty, they have never let that stop them from having a desire to learn. Our students love coming to school. They just need a bit more room to feel comfortable in our classroom.

My Project

With students in special education it is important to service each child's individual need. Some of my students have a very real need for space. I have a great room but when we need to sit together we are very crowded. The best part of our class is we get to stay together for multiple years. For most of us, this is our fourth year together! Our old rug was perfect when they were much smaller.

Now, most are sitting off because they have simply outgrown it.

They work extremely hard and deserve to have the same access other students have in the regular classroom. Having the space to sit as a group is very empowering since they learn from each other just as much as they learn from me.
