We're Growing, Growing Growing! Ain't No Stopping Us Now!

My Project

We're excited that we've started on our school/community garden! Humble beginnings is our start, but we expect greater learning and experiences to come. This spring the students are learning to grow food that will support our school and our community. Our seedlings are struggling, but pairing them with robust plants from garden stores has helped them to thrive. So, we also invested in lady bugs to protect our seedlings from pests, planting flowers that attract beneficial pests as well as pollinators. We are working with three raised beds and a few container plants from donations of parents, teachers, and myself. Our plans are to double our beds so that we will have a larger harvest to feed our community and harvest seeds for the next year.

Yes, the students are learning to harvest seeds as well.

They are learning where food comes from, experiencing seed to fruit formation, and expecting to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The students are eager for their first harvest, parents are proud and anticipating the harvest as well. Although it may be small we are encouraged to add garden beds to grow more food and more varieties of foods, that can be shared among our community.
