This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My preschool students are children who are three to five years of age. My school is in sunny San Pedro, California. The children from San Pedro come to school each morning ready to learn and grow. There's never a dull moment in our class; my students are busy bees moving from one interest area to another. They're eager to learn, explore, engage and experiment with the instructional materials and centers I set up for them. Every single one of my students deserves a fair chance at having his or her potential nurtured and fully developed. My little ones have an insatiable curiosity, that's why it's important for me to have a class with a variety of instructional materials to meet their educational needs.
My Project
My students will have many learning opportunities while on their visit to the Los Angeles Zoo. For many of them this will be the first time they ever see a lion, zebra, giraffe, gorilla, bear, rhinoceros, hippopotamus etc... While having a fun day exploring the zoo my students will learn many new vocabulary words. In addition to learning many animal names they will learn words and concepts such as habitat, endangered, wild, domesticated, nocturnal, conservation and global warming.
Most importantly, our trip to the zoo will raise my student's environmental awareness; fostering respect, protection, love and preservation of animals and their habitats.
The children will learn about the importance of taking care of our environment as it has a significant impact on the lives and welfare of animals. They will learn about animal habitat conservation and also to love and appreciate animals. Visiting the zoo will help my students expand their understanding of animals. As they get an up close look, they will get to see the animals behavior, what they look like, smell like and sounds like. It will truly be a multi-sensory approach to learning!
