Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have our canteens and our pith helmets - time to dig! I currently teach second grade in a low-income school district in east San Jose. One of our first units of study is dinosaurs and fossils. It is my hope to provide my students with their very own excavation experience.
Using dinosaur kits from Delta Education, my young adventurers will become modern-day dinosaur diggers! The kits contain hammers and chisels just like real paleontologist tools. The class will use four different kits to assemble four different dinosaurs. Together the students will unearth the skeleton, reassemble the bones, and paint and display them. The bones snap together and have movable parts allowing the children to better visualize dinosaurs of long ago.
Included in the kit is a fact-filled field guide that gives the dirt on dino excavations. No bones about it, my students would really learn about science, dinosaurs, charting and writing about their findings in their own field journal. Additionally, the class will learn all about teamwork through this experience. Thank you for your consideration of our proposal.
