This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students would love to learn about Native American culture, but the social studies textbook just isn't engaging enough. They want to read kid-friendly stories and participate in interactive lessons.

My third graders are enthusiastic, project-based learners.

They come from different backgrounds and different cities in our area to attend our public charter school. They do not learn through boring lectures and textbooks... they need real, hands-on experience with age appropriate storybooks, nonfiction books, and resources.

My Project

I am requesting content related books, interactive centers, and teaching materials to enhance the quality of our Native American social studies project unit. Last year, I was able to gather resources in a piecemeal fashion, but I had difficulty finding kid-friendly artifacts to use with my students. The quality of the resources that my students used was not consistent. I would like to provide my students with kid-friendly books to learn about the culture, both nonfiction and legends/folktales. My students would also benefit from seeing/touching/using/recreating some of the artifacts and materials in the resource box and teaching center.

My students need to interact with the concepts they are learning about.

They need the books (fiction and nonfiction), resource box, and teaching center to bring Native American culture to life in our classroom.
