My Project
To celebrate bringing back our in-person winter concerts, my second grade students are putting on a Musical called FLAKES!, which is sung from the point of view of snowflakes. To commemorate this fun re-introduction into the world of in-person school performance concerts I would love for my students to be able to go all out and dress up in matching snowflake head boppers and sun glasses for their performance of FLAKES! Research shows that children who sing/dance/act/play their little hearts out are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement compared with their non-performing friends — and they tend to have enhanced cognitive, motor, and social development to boot. But the benefits don’t end there. Getting up on stage can enrich a child’s life in all sorts of surprising ways: They master their anxiety, express brand-new emotions, increase their self-esteem, and simply by having been part of the performance process, a child has been exposed to a new way of thinking and doing!
