My Students
"If we try to think back to the dim and distant past... what is it that helps us reconstruct those times, and to picture the lives of those who lived in them? It is their art... It is thanks to the hand, the companion of the mind, that civilization has arisen." -- Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind
I believe that art is one of the many ways children express themselves, art is a way for children to communicate their feelings and through art children can use an open-mind in exploring and using their creativity.
Even though my students come from a rather rural farmland county in the heart of West Virginia, they've learned to embrace the rich artistic heritage in which they live!
Through art, my students interact with their world with their senses; growing and developing by creating enables them to think differently and take pride in what they've made!
It is here where my students excel, when we take away limitations and give each one room to breathe, room to explore, room to grow and ways to see their way matters and the way they express themselves in their art matters too!
My Project
Inspired by the beautifully colorful fabric designs of tribal batik, the resources provided through your contributions will give my visual art students the experience of creating this truly breathtaking, traditional and awe-inspiring art form. It is here that this project will bridge the connection of the arts and culture with a hands on, "Montessori" approach to creating truly one-of-kind, beautiful & visually dynamic batiks!
Your donation will go towards purchasing the watercolor crystals, wax resist, watercolor paper, spray bottles and applicators and Modge Podge glitter adhesives.
As with most of the projects we do in my art class, we'll be learning and talking about the art form through exploration of its cultural significance, history and application. Once the foundation has been established, students will literally get "hands-on" with their own batiks, all while utilizing peer collaboration, 21st century interactive engagements, critical-thinking activities and of course creative expression to in their one-of-a-kind, unique, personalized and beautiful fabric art! The great thing is, the students will have a lot of control in how they create their art, from choosing their own colors and designs, to applying them using wax resist and finishing by removing the wax to reveal the completed project! So much personal growth and exploration is waiting for them with this project!
We want integration happening, with our goal and purpose for this project resting solely on the students themselves being immersed and actively engaged throughout the entire process. For we know, that a Montessori Art project focuses on the process while allowing the child to truly experience art on their own terms.
Please help make this project a reality - with your donation we can bring this great project to life!
