My Students

Our students are some of the sweetest and most appreciative children you could find.

We are a low-income school with a special focus on deaf and hard of hearing students.

We have many sign language interpreters and spoken language facilitators that work one on one with students each day.

Many of our normal hearing students are curious and anxious to understand and communicate with our deaf and hard of hearing students.

Even with their differences, our students are kind and accepting of all students and welcome them into their school community.

My Project

In our elementary school library we are very limited in our collection of books about signing, as well as books with strong deaf and hard of hearing characters.

Many of our students long to read books with characters in which they can relate.

For our deaf and hard of hearing students, this is difficult because we just don't have the resources to purchase these books.

Through DonorsChoose.org funding, our library would be able to purchase several deaf and hard of hearing books. This would allow those students an opportunity to identify with characters and relate to their experiences as a deaf and hard of hearing child. It would also give normal hearing children a way of increased communication through signing and a glimpse into their classmates' world.
