I teach English in a program for overaged high school students. They struggle with reading, writing, and even just getting to school. Traditional teaching methods don't always work for my students. I've worked diligently to provide my students with alternate forms of assessment, and I've noticed that art is an especially effective way for my students to express themselves.
Unfortunately, art supplies are quite expensive. I am allotted $100 a year to spend on my classroom which barely covers buying posters and pens. I would love to use even more art projects with my students, which is why I am writing this grant.
I will need assorted sets of markers, pens, drawing paper, poster board, yarn, paintbrushes, and other art supplies. About 90 students will use these products this year, and whatever leftover supplies we have my students next year will be able to use as well.
My students are truly inspired by art, and many of them are quite talented. Unfortunately, they are often unable to show their talent because they can't afford art supplies themselves. Thank you for your interest in helping my students open new avenues to learning.
