This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students with autism are attending school for the first time in a newly opened Flexroom! This space is designed for students who struggle with self-regulation in the regular education setting. My students learn through a variety of “hands-on” resources. The use of math manipulatives in the classroom is crucial. They make math clearer to understand and more attainable. My students love math and really learn best when they have hands-on materials to help them learn.
Hands-on manipulatives allow students to achieve success while showing their thinking as they learn new skills.
Using manipulatives helps students engage in the problem-solving process by seeing their thinking which keeps them active in the learning process. The various counting manipulatives will provide concrete practice with everything from counting and sorting to identifying patterns! Students who develop a strong math foundation at a young age will become strong math leaders in their community now and in the future.
