Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative, clever and very enthusiastic about learning. They come from low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their small community.

Many of my students are struggling to learn online.

Many depend on worksheet packets and whatever books I have sent home for them to use at home. Despite the hardships they are facing with school being closed, they are eager learners.

We are a Title I school in a low-income community; I have twenty-two Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) students in my classroom. Five of which are in Kindergarten and 17 in First grade. All of my students have access to free breakfast and lunch when at school.

Although my students are creative, clever and very enthusiastic about learning, the majority of my students read below grade level. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning platform. As of March 17th, my students have been learning at home. Our school will be closed until further notice due to Covid-19. I want to make sure that I continue to provide my students with quality education even while we are apart.

My Project

My students have been doing an extraordinary job at completing the assignments in Google Classroom during distance learning. However, my learners would benefit greatly from me having an iPad with sound and video capabilities to share online materials, record video messages, reading passages, and lessons for them.

This project will provide an iPad and pen, so that I can use these amazing tools to assist my students with their remote learning experiences.

My extraordinary Kinder and First grade students will benefit immensely by having an iPad in our classroom once everything goes back to normal. The iPad would help with audiobooks, read-aloud assistance, and translation services. I have included an iPad pen to our project to help facilitate remote teaching. The pen will allow for me to use our online learning time more efficiently.
