My classroom is an exciting place to learn. In the midst of that excitement, I have very high expectations for each student within my classroom. One challenge we face on a regular basis is the lack of technology or variety of technology within our classroom.
My students are eager learners.
They love learning new things and being able to present new ideas to their classmates. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Many do not have access to different forms of technology outside of our school. While our school is working to improve the amount of technology we make available for these students, we still struggle to give them abundant opportunities. If I asked my students what their favorite activity is, a majority of them would agree by saying, "Readers' theater." My students love to act out concepts they have learned and share them with the class.
My Project
In performing readers' theater type activities, we need an area where students can go to take pictures, record themselves, and organize their parts/ideas. This concept can be done in both my Language Arts class and my Social Studies class. My students will use the rug we are requesting as a place to not only go and read for enjoyment, but also a place to set up the camera and act out different ideas they are learning about to share with the class and with parents. My students will use the pocket chart we have requested as a way to keep their scripts organized for other blocks since I teach two blocks of each subject. What my students are most excited about, is the requisition of a classroom digital camera and video recorder. Having this type of technology within our classroom will allow students to take pictures to use in their projects, record themselves as they act out what they have learned, and learn all about a new type of technology that many are not exposed to.
Having these items in our classroom will help us build more of a classroom community and will allow my students to feel involved in helping others learn.
In doing that, each student will feel included and like the much needed part of our classroom that they are.
