This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love to sit on the carpet and read books. Every year they have a favorite author and this year it is Jory John. I have checked out his books from our library, but I would love to have our own class set, that can be read and enjoyed every day in our class. Most of my students do not have books at home that are readily available, so I would like to be able to add more books, especially books that have won awards, such as The Children’s and Teen Choice Book Award, "Best Children's Book" by NPR and the Irish Times, and several state level awards.

I feel adding these books to my classroom will have foster a love of reading.

I have many students in my class who are English Language Learners. These books will help build their comprehension, as well as their language skills. The majority of his books contain idioms and teach students a lesson. Even students who are not yet able to read his books, are able to retell or "read" his stories using the pictures.
