My Students

Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I will remember. Involve me and I will understand. Step back and I will act. - Chinese Proverb. Have you ever heard this quote? It describes what our school day is all about! Involving students with hands-on activities is imperative in today's world.

When you come into our classroom, you will see my students eagerly and happily working with hands-on materials in all subject areas, especially reading/language arts.

When it comes to reading, you do not hear much about it being "interactive." But in our classroom, we like to involve various aspects of learning (listening, acting, reading, etc.) to gain understanding of the various topics covered in this subject area. In other areas of study, my students love to work with manipulatives, tools, and, simply, their hands. Involving their hands in an iPad center is something that I think my students will benefit from, being able to use apps that will help improve their understanding and comprehension in all subject areas. Knowing that they could have access to more supplies to better stretch their minds and show what they know is very exciting to them, and they love being able to show it on a daily basis.

My Project

When it comes to the core curriculum (ELA, Math, Science, and SS), students need all the exposure they can get for all concepts through various means of learning. One of those means of learning I think my students will benefit most from is a technology based learning - whether it be manipulating, moving, typing, or listening. Being able to use apps to hear someone else fluently read a text that appeals to my students is not only a great model, but it also helps my students better understand text with clear comprehension. Students will be able to use their speaking and listening skills with PuppetPals, view real-time maps using Google Earth, and practice multiplication with Front Row Math. Through the use of technology, this is made possible because they can simply use any apps that benefit their learning in ways that they didn't think they could. This interactive way of learning brings about a new definition and sheds new light on the word "education."

This project will change my students' lives for the better and will improve my classroom teaching in a variety of ways.

We will be able to better understand our subject areas and concepts because we will have access to thousands of applications. We will be able to better understand how to utilize technology in a smart way because we will have them available to us. This will all be possible because we will have the technology to use in our own classroom on a daily (and hourly) basis.
