This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am seeking funding to complete a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (CYT) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL*F) certification through the non-profit group, Breathe for Change. This training will equip me with the skills to bring essential SEL practices directly to our students and to design impactful professional development for our teachers.

I believe that Social Emotional Learning and healing movement help students calm their minds, making it possible for them to focus, engage, and grow as readers.

My passion is literacy, but sometimes we have to approach it through a side door — by adding movement, mindfulness, and emotional support — to help students open up and thrive in education.

Our school is a Title 1 school located in Salt Lake City, serving a diverse population that would greatly benefit from increased access to mindfulness, movement, and emotional well-being strategies. Through this certification, I will be able to create a sustainable, schoolwide SEL program that addresses stress, builds resilience, and fosters a stronger sense of community among students and staff.
