Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a secondary special education teacher, I teach applied ELA and social skills. I have a lot of students on behavior plans. When they become escalated it could be beneficial for them to have a flexible seating option to review social skills and behavior techniques. This will also enrich the learning environment and reading time to have a comfy reading spot to be with a good book.

To motivate my students I would love to have options available to them that pertain to their success while making sure they feel cared for by offering a comfortable space to focus on their wellness.

When we do independent work I let them change seats and they always chose the comfy chairs in the room. We can ensure the items I have selected will optimize learning outcomes by meeting the students hierarchy of needs and that my students are able to focus on the tasks at hand and ultimately increase their learning outcomes.

I love giving my students options for learning and want to secure the items for their learning and give them space for sensory overloads, breaks, and show them more than I already have that I care for their wellness. In hopes of providing my students with a retreat with in the classroom to recollect and redirect. This project will reinforce intellectual growth and decrease problematic behaviors that ultimately hinder academic achievement.
