it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in grades nine through twelve. We are a small, public school tucked away in the mountains. My students struggle with their emotions due to varying disabilities.
I am the assistant coach to the high school's cheer and dance team.
The team competes statewide as 2A/3A Co-Ed Cheer/Dance team. We are limited to our resources and the nearest place to practice jumps, tumbles, and acrobatics is over an hour away.
The team is young but very energetic and eager to improve.
My Project
I coach the cheer/dance team. We are located in the mountains with very little resources for my team to practice tumbling.
Tumbling is a required skill to display during competition.
The closest gym with tumbling opportunities is over an hour from our high school. Driving at night can be a hazard due to wildlife and adverse weather conditions.
Having our own tumble mat will allow the team to get their needed practice without traveling over two hours to do so. The mat is inflatable so it allows for easy storage. The mat makes it easier to complete different tumbles (cartwheels, front-flips, back-flips, front tucks, etc.) because it's inflated and makes it bouncier, giving the team confidence to complete tumbles on a non-bouncy mat.
This tumble mat is going to improve our tumbling, as well as our team morale.
