Literacy is very important in our world, and starting a new classroom library is difficult to build that first year. I want to provide a variety of topics for my 3rd graders to select from. Please help us gain some awesome books.
My students live in a small community, at least small by some standards, that has a range of economic statuses.
Many families are supported by working at the college, hospital, or in the woods. A portion of our students have parents who are students at our local college, and nearly 40% of our students fall in the poverty level. Our community is diverse, with varying religious and cultural beliefs.
My Project
The books I've chosen provide a variety of genres to attract readers no matter their gender or interests. There is nonfiction, mystery, and fantasy, and also include books that cross over to math and science as well. As a new teacher to this district, and to this grade, I don't have the collection of books in different genres and themes to attract young readers, and getting this project funded will help to build a classroom library for my students to enjoy this year and in the years to come.
I'm new to this district and I don't have very much for books to build my classroom library.
I have some old titles that have been donated, so old that they are older than my students! However, we could really use some new ones to attract the attention of all of my 3rd graders, no matter what their interests are or whether they are a boy or a girl.
