I teach 1st grade at a high-need at-risk school. I am new to teaching and my school spends the little resources it has on after school programs for our students.
How can two computers serve 25 students? Well, they really can't. Students need to develop their computer skills and view all there is to offer on the internet. With one twenty-minute computer center a week, students are not able to do either of these things.
An LCD projector would allow me to teach students computer skills. Additionally, I would be able to enhance the curriculum by showing pictures and videos. For example, during the science unit on weather, I can show the class real videos of hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. to open their eyes and engage them in the unit. My students would be seeing many new things for the first time.
You can help break through the walls of my classroom. Many of my students live within blocks of the school and have never seen their city's downtown! With your help, we can broaden their horizons and expose them to many new possibilities. The internet has so many educational opportunities that my students are missing. Let's open their minds!
