This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the great privilege of fostering a learning community with young men and women who are 9th and 10th graders in the historic neighborhood of Mexicantown in southwest Detroit.
For the majority of my scholars who are learning English as a second language, it is pivotal to provide an inviting, warm, and welcoming classroom reading lounge that inspires and infuses a love for reading and confidence in the English language.

My Project
Based on research and best practices, we know that sparking a love of reading is critical to developing young leaders who are lifelong learners. We also know that our built environment influences how we engage!
The furniture for my classroom reading lounge is the foundation of creating a welcoming space for my students that fosters a love for reading and deepens their inspiration to be lifelong learners.
