Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is full of vibrant, excited learners ready for new challenges each and every day! We are a preK-8th grade school, and in every grade, we develop a strong classroom community to support one another. My school is made up of students with special needs, gifted students, and English language learners. We fill our days with rigorous academics and extraordinary teachers. My students all come from lower-income families that struggle each day to make ends meet. Many of these children face poverty and violence on a daily basis that is well beyond what most of us could imagine.

Despite all of the challenges these students face in their daily lives, each one of them comes to school ready to learn.

My Project

It is important that literature used in school reflects the racially, culturally, and socially diverse backgrounds in which students come from. Students need to feel safe and comfortable at school. Surrounding them with book options that reflects their families, homes, and backgrounds can help them feel accepted and appreciated.

This diverse book club options will help students see themselves in literature, as well as learn and respect the similarities and differences between all people.

As we return to school, this collection of new books will help our resource room bond and come together as a classroom community. My students will enjoy participating in book club even more with diverse and engaging chapter books.
