Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In the fall, we will have a brand new group of freshman starting high school! We are eager to welcome them, and unsure of what the future holds with Shelter-in-Place and other COVID-19 safety measures. In past years, we have hosted a welcome BBQ for freshman orientation and spent the first week of school community building.
This year, due to distance learning, we are adjusting our welcome activities to now become virtual for our incoming ninth graders.
In an effort to make connections with our new students and support them in their transition from middle school to high school, we plan to make them welcome packages with school supplies and school materials.
My Project
These materials will be provided for incoming ninth grade students to support their distance learning. We will provide materials to help with engagement at home, materials they may not currently have and that would typically be provided at school. We want to create welcome packages for them to support their transition into high school, which could possibly be spent virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions. Providing materials for our students will show them that they are thought of and cared about, despite us being far apart. We hope that this gesture will help them feel welcome at our school!
