My Students
If you were to walk down the hallway towards my classroom, you might be inclined to know what all the noise was about: it's students engaged in learning! After my mini-lesson, my students work to construct their knowledge with a cognitive tool called "thinking maps," to process their learning.
My students are African- American and Hispanic, between the ages of 11-13, who are inquisitive and productive when they have the right materials at their fingertips.
They enjoy reading and writing about thought provoking topics such as civil rights and social justice. In my classroom, students are preparing for the 21st Century World of critical thinking, reading and writing. However, my school often struggles with providing my students with the basic tools they need to help prepare and present their newfound knowledge.
My Project
These materials will allow me to differentiate and display the tasks I ask of my students to ensure that they feel successful in my classroom. Chart paper will allow me to model each task for my students, then post the chart paper in my room to continue to refer back to through out the year. The highlighters, pens and expo markers are used for reading annotation, and checking for understanding on dry-erase boards. These basic tools will help me to assess their learning and allow my students to build on their knowledge and skills in ELA.
By donating to this project, you will be helping me be a better teacher for my students.
You will help me give the kind of education that my kids deserve regardless of what my school budget says they can afford to give us. Most of all, you will broaden the opportunities I can give my kids to present their knowledge in the classroom and hopefully present in the boardroom one day!
