My Project

I am so excited to welcome my 29th group of students this year! It is a big year since I am moving to a new classroom in a new building. That means I am starting from scratch. Everything will be new: new better than paper bulletin board rolls, die-cut border trim, writing composition books, calendar bulletin board set, calming toys and posters, jumbo sand timer, a small rug, and a sensory tent filled with sensory toys. While these changes may be exciting for me, they may leave my students feeling anxious and even fearful of what's to come.

There has never been a more important time than now for my second graders to feel welcome, included, and safe.

There is no doubt that many of my students have witnessed and even been exposed to the tumultuous events that are happening in the world right now. I want my students to rest assured that our classroom will be an inviting space where they can express themselves freely.

I work in a Title I school where most of my students are born to immigrant parents or are immigrants themselves. New bulletin boards, social emotional learning posters, writing materials, and a calming corner are sure to draw them in for a closer look at what they will be learning this year. I believe these additions to our new classroom will make a positive impact on their learning as well as their mental health.
