This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am excited to start the new school year with my new 5th grade through 8th-grade classes. However, since I am new to the school, that means I am starting new with resources. The pandemic has created an environment where learning will be fully virtual this year. I have to get creative introducing myself and building relationships with the 400 students in the school community. All of my young scholars are considered low-income and qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. The pandemic has not made this challenge easier. But, as we all know, children are resilient!

My Project

We are planning for a real first day of school this fall. This past school year has had almost a half-dozen first days and almost first days. It has led to a let a false hope of school actually beginning and stability.

This summer, we are ramping up beginning in the summer.

The encouraging postcards and stamps are going to be welcoming students back throughout the summer, in stages. We will be adding tips, event dates, and resources on the back of the postcard to keep families and students up to date.

Engagement is key. We need our families to feel like they are a part of the school family again.
